Tasmanian Blackwood is an Australian native hardwood characterised by its rich dark colour, light sapwood, and wavy grain. This timber is appearance timber commonly used for flooring, interior panelling, and furniture.


Colour

Deep browns and reds with fine grain and even texture, sometimes containing wavy, fiddleback patterns, and pale coloured sapwood, valued for furniture and veneers.

Strength

Strong hard wood suitable for flooring, interior applications, and joinery.

Durability

Tasmanian blackwood is durable, interior-use timber, it has low in-ground durability and is not ideal for external applications.

Finish

Light stains and oils can provide extended preservation of colour and appearance.

Workability

Blackwood has a good overall workability. It is easy to nail and glues well. A smooth, polished finish can be achieved, making blackwood ideal for furniture. It is also good for steam bending.
