Locally grown timber has long played a part in New Zealand's architecture and built heritage. For the last 45 years, Summerhill has been planting and nurturing specialty hardwood and softwood FSC-managed forests across the Papamoa Hills.
Trees are hand-selected and milled without further treatment, preserving their natural colour, strength and character.

Tasmanian Blackwood

One of Australia's most sought-after hardwoods, Tasmanian Blackwood has been grown here in the Papamoa Hills for 45 years, thriving in New Zealand's elevated coastal climate. It's known for its warm chocolate brown tones and beautiful figure, ranging from straight grain through to striking fiddleback and wavy figure in select pieces. A dense, durable timber, it suits fine furniture, joinery, feature panelling and flooring.
Tasmanian Blackwood finishes beautifully, takes oils and polyurethane with depth, bringing out the natural lustre and figure in the grain.
Being a natural product, no two pieces are identical. Variation in colour, figure and grain is part of what makes each board unique.

Victorian Ash is a rare and highly valued Australian native hardwood, grown for 45 years in the elevated coastal climate of Papamoa Hills, New Zealand. Pale and straight-grained, with a dense, hard-wearing surface, it's ideally suited to flooring, shelving, furniture and high-traffic applications.
Victorian Ash is easy to work with and is highly durable, taking oils and polyurethane finishes beautifully.
As a natural product, each piece of timber is unique. Gum streaks, colour variation and surface finish variation are natural characteristics of the timber.
